Don’t hold your breath for WiMAX, says a story in Network World. True, WiMAX recently got a couple of boosts which brought it off its death bed. (1) Last month, Sprint and Clearwire finally struck a deal to combine their WiMAX businesses. 2) Earlier in June Cisco and Intel gathered up a handful of other companies to share and sell WiMAX patents.) But it isn’t on track to be a big influence on enterprise networks in 2008. By 2010, WiMax coverage is expected to be big enough, and support for it to be embedded on enough devices, to become a real option for some enterprise broadband applications.
