I just came across the Cisco salary survey report on PayScale.com, which found that the highest paid Cisco workers surveyed were software development managers, whose median salary is $124,805. Following the software development manager are senior software engineers/developers/programmers earning a median salary of $105,267. The lowest paid worker surveyed earning a paltry $82,497 were regular software engineers/developers/programmers, though they make about $5,000 more than the median salary of their peers at Sun, according to PayScale.
Cisco also pays for experience, according to PayScale. Employees with less than one year of experience pull in a median salary of $63,202, while a worker with 20 years experience can make $119,843. Entry level workers at Cisco earn less than their equivalent at Sun, which pays a median salary of $68,467 for college graduates. Sun pays workers with 20 years experience a median salary of $120,641, according to PayScale. The median bonus for senior level positions at Cisco is about $12,000.
Potential employees will need to consider the higher cost of living for Cisco workers. According to PayScale, the cost of living in San Jose is 54% higher than the national average, while the cost of living in San Francisco is a whopping 71% higher than the national average. PayScale notes that public transportation is a more economical option for getting to work though the commute time to Cisco from San Jose and San Francisco is 25 minutes and 35 minutes, respectively. The median salary for Cisco workers in San Jose ($101,493) and San Francisco ($103,914) is higher than the salary for workers in other cities, including Dallas ($87,964) and Raleigh ($92,790).
