Cisco sews up the consumer application delivery network market?

The Application Delivery Network blog reckons Cisco is the only company right now that’s positioned to

own the consumer application delivery network market. “It’s more than just the ‘triple play’ we talk about in the industry: voice, video, data,” writes The ADC. “It’s triple play for consumers, with a focus on the consumer, not the producer. That’s what makes Cisco’s approach so interesting and different from that of traditional networking vendors.” In combining Cisco’s purchases of Linksys, consumer VoIP provider Sipura, Scientific-Atlanta, video delivery company DiviTech, and Pure Networks, The ADC believes that Cisco is in a strong position to provide the networking required by cloud computing and service-based software offerings.

The ADC adds:

“Sometimes, given Cisco’s almost ambivalent approach to improving its enterprise ADC line, one could easily be led to believe that their participation in the enterprise ADC market is merely a diversion while it waits for the explosion that will be the consumer ADN. Because it’s quite possible that having locked down the consumer side, it can also explode on the producer side.”
