Hey now… I blogged about VMware’s foray into the PowerShell realm last year. Looks like earlier this week VMware finally “released” their Infrastructure Toolkit. You can download the toolkit here: Link
For those of your not familiar with this little wonder of modern computing let me bring you up to speed. You see, VMware realized last year that PowerShell was a really great management interface. Thanks to this realization they also decided to allocate some resources to developing a PowerShell based interface to the VMware Infrastructure API (VI API). Needless to say… this was a good thing. VMware’s toolkit gives you over 120 cmlets for managing and automating VMware based infrastructure.
On another note, (larger thanks to Hyper-V) VMware has decided to make ESXi a free product. That’s right, the ESXi hypervisor is available at no cost. Hmmmm… me thinks another shot has been fired in the now heating up virtualization war. It should be interesting to see what Microsoft does next.
