QlikTech’s QlikView: A better alternative for business intelligence?

QlikTech is a Swedish (now US-based) business intelligence vendor that’s growing like wildfire. Selling its product suite QlikView to medium-sized enterprises and — increasingly — departments of large ones, QlikTech offers two major selling propositions:

  • Easier deployment than with conventional tools, especially if you don’t have a data warehouse already in place
  • Richer analytic capabilities

Both benefits are based on in-memory data structures, the details of which QlikTech is regrettably vague about.

I wrote up the QlikTech story at some length on my blog DBMS2, and a detailed discussion ensued in the comment thread. There also are a number of other links there (in the body of the post and the comments/trackbacks alike). Since QlikTech hasn’t seen fit to help one form independent opinions of its technical direction, I’ll just refer you to those links and leave things at that.
