URL hack yields details on Sprint’s Xohm WiMAX launch

Engadget Mobile has some details of this month’s scheduled launch of the Sprint-Clearwire Xohm WiMAX launch. The details were dug up by an Engadet fan, named Leo, who was able to do some exploring of what was said to be Sprint’s MyXohm Website (which apparently is no longer showing up). Many of the pages and links were simply placeholders or filler text, but according to Engadget the site said that the Xohm mobile WiMAX service will deliver 2-4Mbps for downloads and 1-3Mbps for uploads. There were also hints about some of the client and customer premises WiMAX gear that will be ready to run, though these, too, might simply placeholders pulled from vendor WiMAX listings: a WiMAX edition of the Nokia N810 Internet tablet, a WiMAX USB modem apparently from ZTE, the Samsung SWC-E100 PC modem (one of several of WiMAX adapters and clients)(with optional PCMCIA adapter), ZyXel’s cool-looking MAX-200 line of WiMAX gateway/routers unveiled in 2006 but apparently not listed on the ZyXel Website. According to Engadget, Xohm initially only will support static IP addresses. As part of the launch, Sprint will be offering a members-only Xohm Web portal, using Web services interfaces to enable a flock of third-parties to present location- and presence-based applications and services.
