As part of Microsoft’s ‘Get Virtual Now’ event going on this week, CA today announced its intent to offer a whole lot of support for Microsoft’s virtualization technology. For instance, CA ARCserve Backup, which has earned a stamp of approval in Microsoft’s Windows Server 2008 certification, now supports virtual servers for file system, SQL Server and Exchange Server servers using Hyper-V. This, CA says, will help automate data protection and recovery.
But wait, there’s more …
* CA XOsoft Replication and High Availability currently supports replication and failover of guest operating systems in Hyper-V. Future support will focus on improving application availability/disaster recovery of Hyper-V virtual servers by running at the Hyper-V hypervisor level.
* CA plans more support, too. CA Advanced Systems Management will manage Hyper-V and CA Access Control will support it.
* CA Network and Systems Management, also already certified to work with WS2008, will eventually include Hyper-V management, too.
Microsoft Subnet has queried CA to ask for more specific timeline and a few more details on this announcements — such as what CA will offer that System Center will not. If you have questions for CA, post them here and we’ll ask those of the company, too.
