BBN Technologies today said $12 million in awards are being dished to academic and other research teams to create the first “spiral” of GENI prototypes. GENI is an NSF-sponsored effort to advance research in network science and engineering.
“GENI Spiral 1 has begun!” said Chip Elliott, GENI Project Director, in a statement. “This first spiral will federate a wide variety of network research infrastructure, ranging from optical backbones to disk farms to sensor networks, with the very first prototypes up and running in six to twelve months.”
Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Georgia Tech and Ohio State are among the 29 organizations awarded funding.
