I had a chance to check out the 451 Group’s 3rd Annual Client Conference in Boston on Tuesday and heard lots of money talk. Security companies are buying each other up, with 451 security industry watcher Nick Selby predicting that standalone NAC companies would be no more by the end of next year (was amused to read a Twitter post by one of Selby’s colleagues that read: “Explaining to agitated NAC vendors why Nick Selby’s declaration that NAC will be dead by the end of 2009 doesn’t mean that they’ll be dead.” Antenna Software, a wireless applications platform provider, was in high demand among investment pros after the company showed it had some spending money by acquiring a firm called Vettro on Monday. I’ve summed up my observations in some more detail here.
I’d love to tell you about the TOP SECRET information shared by a panel of virtualization customers featuring Fidelity Investments and JP Morgan Chase on Wednesday, but no dice. I didn’t attend that day but one of my colleagues did. He stuck around for the end of the end-of-the-day session only to be kicked in the stomach as the panel began: the moderator announced that any journalists in the crowd wouldn’t be allowed to quote these guys because the info was confidential.
