What if money talked … literally?

They say money talks. It’s just an expression, of course, or at least it has been.

Now scientists at Mid Sweden University have opened the door to any number of intriguing possibilities – including talking money, one would presume – with their introduction of interactive paper that makes sounds when touched. From this BBC story:

The prototype display uses conductive inks, which are sensitive to pressure, and printed speakers.

The team envisages that the technology could be used by advertisers, and in the future, it might even be employed for product packaging.

So, what kinds of talking paper might we want and what might such paper have to say. Here are a few of my suggestions:

Money: “Oh, so you’re the fool.”

Magazines: “Hey, big fella, all that stands between me and us are those three silly staples.”

Copy paper: “Trust me, bub, that butt-print won’t seem so funny tomorrow.”

Stationery: “E-mail’s going to look old and wrinkly one day, too.”

Parking tickets: “What? You can’t read a sign?”

Credit card statements: “You keep spending; we’ll keep sending.”

Wrapping paper: “Remember, it’s the thought that counts”
