I can’t use hypertext in the title of my posts [rats…], so: Bring back warranty offerings! That takes you to Dell’s IdeaStorm blog, where some customers are a bit upset — seems Dell is not offering the CompleteCare or Extended warranty coverage on Ubuntu systems. CompleteCare covers damage unrelated to product use and normal warranty. From that blog:
As captaintux puts it, “I am looking for protection from bricks. The laws of physics do not differ from one OS to the other…do they?”
This customer had his order taken and his bank/cc debited, but the order remains unfilled. He has contacted an unnamed Dell exec requesting satisfaction. When Dell offered Ubuntu on selected products it was seen as a huge marketing move since it represents only 1% of their total sales (my estimate). Still, by not offering extended warranties on these products they have turned around and shot themselves in the foot. Let’s see if they reload and shoot again.
