A good piece here out of Purdue University on the looming problem that supercomputers will have running software as they gain multicore processors. And the problem won’t be limited to supercomputers…desktop and laptop machines could eventually feel the pain too, experts say.
” In five or six years, laptop computers will have the same capabilities, and face the same obstacles as today’s supercomputers,” says Purdue’s Faisal Saied.
Word that a Maryland professor has created a “desktop supercomputer” only adds to the urgency of such concerns.
