Ethernet inventor and 3Com founder Robert Metcalfe has taken over as interim president of GreenFuel Technologies , which describes itself as “a pioneer in the development of algae bioreactor technology to convert the CO2 in your smokestack gases into clean, renewable biofuels.” In other words, the company wants to swap in algae for imported oil.
Metcalfe comes to GreenFuel via his role as a general partner at Polaris Ventures, which is one of GreenFuel’s investors, having put $6.8 million toward the cause. Metcalfe has been with Polaris since 2001.
Metcalfe replaces Cary Bullock, who stays on as VP of business development.
GreenFuel, based in Cambridge, Mass., started up in 2001.
