If you are an executive in charge of a unit that cost your company $1 billion dollars, you can’t expect to keep your job for too much longer. Yesterday, Microsoft announced that Peter Moore resigned. However, Moore says that his exit has nothing to do with the Xbox problems.
“[Leaving] is something that has been in the works for a few weeks and is completely and utterly unrelated to anything that has gone on in the [Xbox] business in the past few weeks. It is purely about family … and a desire to get back to our Bay Area roots,” Moore said on a podcast posted on the blog of Larry Hryb, Xbox Live director of programming at Microsoft.
But let’s review the situation a little … two weeks ago, he wrote an open letter to the Xbox community apologizing for hardware failures in the Xbox 360 systems, promising to fix them if they occur in the next three years. Cost to the company for this snafu, an estimated $1 billion.
Don Mattrick, a former president of Electronic Arts (EA), who was reportedly already an advisor for Microsoft, who step in to top spot in Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business.
Rumor is that Moore will then land at EA.

Oh, and yes I expect 100 posts to be about how him leaving is a sign of trouble for Microsoft. Don’t go there, you;ll just end up looking like an idiot.”
