A Cisco-sponsored study into mobile workers around the world found that users don’t always consider security threats and best practices when working on the go.
Although many said the are aware “sometimes,” 28% of the 700 mobile workers in seven countries polled, admitted that they “hardly ever” consider security risks and proper behavior. When asked why they were lax in their security behavior, many mobile users offered reasons like, “I’m in a hurry,” “I’m busy and need to get work done,” “Security just is not top-of-mind for me,” and “It’s IT’s job, not mine,” the report found.
The report also reveals some interesting tidbits about mobile use across the world:
* Mobile users in China (54%) report the most extreme cases of hijacking a neighbor’s wireless or jumping onto unauthorized connections in public places.
* More than half of mobile users in China, India and the United Kingdom admit to opening attachments from unknown or suspicious sources.
