Microsoft has released Tafiti, a Silverlight-based search tool for use on top of Microsoft’s Live Search engine. Tafiti means “to search” in Swahili. It allows users to store and share search results across multiple queries and sessions.

Tafiti offers the same type of function as a social networking site like del.icio.us in that users can search the Internet and use it to save links to the favorite sites. The interface is completely different, though. After searching the Web, you place items you want to keep on a “glass shelf.” It includes some nifty options. For instance, if you kept a blog at Microsoft’s Windows Live site, with a single click you could create a blog entry for any saved item in Tafiti. If Microsoft ever links Tafiti with other popular social networking sites, like myspace or LiveJournal, or gives the user the option of entering in the access information to their existing blog, Tafiti could become a worthwhile tool.
