Cisco is cool, according to John Soat writing in InformationWeek. Well, Soat thinks Lance Perry, VP of IT at Cisco makes IT – and Cisco’s Service-Oriented Network Architecture – sound cool.
A couple of items Soat believes make Cisco’s IT cool:
* Perry tells of a time when he and a colleague were in Singapore Airport waiting for their next flight. The airport had free wireless, so his colleague logged on and called his wife via Cisco’s VPN and they talked for over an hour – at cost to his colleague. Soat quotes Perry as saying: “It was the first time in a 20-year marriage she was impressed by what he did at Cisco.”
* Cisco’s IT has enabled Perry to work out of the company’s Edison, N.J., office, which has TelePresence. Perry is in New Jersey to look after his ailing father. According to the InformationWeek story:
“If it had come down to my dad or my job, my dad would have won,” he says. This way, he has both.
