This is the last day of what has turned out to be an interesting Intel Developer Forum. Intel announced it is going to release its Penryn chip Nov. 12, the first time the chipmaker has set a specific date for launch of the new 45nm design processor. Meanwhile, AMD tried to crash the party by announcing the triple-core Phenom processor on Monday. And Rackable Systems used the IDF event to unveil its answer to Sun’s Project Blackbox, a shipping container full of computer equipment ready to power up as a portable data center. Rackable actually parked its product, ICE Cube, across the street from the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco. TG Daily provided some perspective on Day 1 of the show here.
