Court won’t declare chimp a person

That’s a real headline, by the way, written apparently by someone under the impression that the court may have had an alternative decision in the matter at hand.

Court declares chimp a person.

Court declares person a chimp.

I mean what’s the difference?

But it gets better. There is this quote from Martin Balluch, president of the Vienna-based Association Against Animal Factories:

“It is astounding how all the courts try to evade the question of personhood of a chimp as much as they can.”

At which point the court had no choice but to declare a person a chimp.
