Apple reports that it has sold two million copies of Leopard already. These two million include copies delivered via maintenance agreements, copies sold at Apple retail stores, through resellers, online and bundled with new Macs. Apple says that the new OS has far outpaced the first-weekend sales of Mac OS X Tiger, previously the most successful OS release in the company’s history. Leopard is the sixth major release of Mac OS X and includes more than 300 new features, says Apple. The comparison of Leopard to Vista cannot be helped. Blogger James Gaskin writes:
“I believe Microsoft pushed the Vista Service Pack release into next year to avoid a head to head with Leopard. Vista appeared last January, Leopard appears now, the Vista Service Pack comes out early next year. Notice how blockbuster movies hit the screens only against smaller movies, not against another blockbuster?”
