Money down the toilet

Opinion

That’s supposed to be just an expression.

Not this morning.

Not at my house.

One of my children, who shall remain nameless, is just getting used to two things: losing his baby teeth — two so far — and the purpose of paper money.

See where this is going?

First tooth came out a few days ago, and, of course, the Tooth Fairy came across with a dollar (blame inflation) under the pillow the next morning. Yesterday my wife and I were discussing the fact that we had no idea what had happened to that dollar.

And that topic came up in the context of tooth number two coming out.

Last night, another dollar under the pillow.

This morning, the beaming child enters our bedroom waving the bill back and forth with great joy. Then he heads off for the bathroom, and upon his return announces:

“I put the dollar down the toilet.”

At least now we know what happened to the first one.
