The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), an organization that unites computer researchers, educators and other professionals, has announced the election of IBM VP of Computer Science Research Stuart Feldman as its president. He will serve a two-year term beginning July 1. Also elected were Vice President Wendy Hall, professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton, U.K., and secretary-treasurer Alain Chesnais, vice president for product development at Tucows of Toronto. Feldman is pledging to expand ACM’s services to countries with rapidly growing populations of computing pros and to throw ACM’s weight around in public policy forums.
Members-at-Large elected to four-year terms are: Bruce Maggs, professor of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, and Vice President, Research, Akamai Technologies, which he helped launch; Kevin Scott, Managing Staff Engineer, Search Quality at Google; and Jeannette Wing, President’s Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University and currently head of the Computer Science Department.
