The University of California and the University of Toronto are providing their out-of-copyright books from their libraries to Microsoft’s Windows Live Book Search service.
With collections totaling more than 34 million volumes in 100-plus libraries on its 10 campuses, the UC library is the largest research and academic library in the world, according to a Microsoft statement.
U of T’s library network is the largest in Canada and boasts more than 15 million holdings and is one of the top-four research libraries in North America.
Publicly available print materials in the two universities’ libraries wil be scanned, digitized and indexed for the system.
