Stanford, Sun seek to save earth

Stanford and Sun announced this week they will launch in September the Center for Computational Earth and Environmental Sciences. The computer facility will be designed to support research in areas such as earthquake detection, global warming and oil exploration. Sun is donating $2 milliion-plus in technology and other vendors are being encouraged to join the center.
