How does your name measure up?

This exercise in idle curiosity has caused two separate stretches of unabashed idleness here at Network World, so I figure it’s time to share: Want to know how common your surname is relative to the 55,000 most popular in the U.S.? You can get the answer here. It’s not a list. You plug in your name and get a number, such as, McNamara: 1,220. No. 1 is Smith No. 2 is Johnson No. 4 is Jones No. 5 is Brown I could not for the life of me guess No. 3 (until a member of the No. 5 clan figured it out.) Perhaps you can do it without help. And despair not if you don’t register in the top 55,000; we had a couple of staffers suffer that rude awakening.
