The trick to a price point under a hundred bucks is using Linux rather than Microsoft Windows XP, of course.

Providing Lindows, or another desktop Linux OS, gives the computer not only the OS but a full set of software. Even if you accept the argument that OpenOffice isn’t the same as Windows Office Professional Edition 2003, it’s certainly the equal to Office Standard Edition. If you hate Word macro viruses, OpenOffice becomes an excellent choice, since they don’t support applications running within text documents (the source of macro virus problems in Word).
