Off topic: Why I’ve always hated Bobby Knight

So the boorish bully has done it again, slapped silly a hapless player, who if there were any justice in the world, would have knocked Coach Knight into next week in response. Someday, one will, and I promise to be leading the applause.

Hate is a word I rarely use in relation to another human being, but man, oh, man, do I hate that man … and everything he stands for in sports, specifically the Bobby Knight-type coach. I played for one on my high school basketball team and the memory causes me rage more than 30 years after having meekly swallowed the last insult. Builds character, you say? Baloney, these Neanderthals build rage — the kind that lingers in grown men three decades removed from their clutches.

Today, all kinds of crap is being written about the latest Knight outburst; the usual sycophants offering up the usual lame excuses. But I stumbled across one voice of reason — Jack McCaffery of the Delaware County Times — that I heartily recommend you read.

Character, my ass.
