(Update: If you’re landing here Dec. 13 in search of news about why the Reddit site is down, here’s all I know.)
Regular Buzzblog readers who do not visit Reddit should feel free to move on. Those still here should recognize this complaint:
You find a headline listed on Reddit that grabs your fancy, say, “Christopher Hitchens responds to Coulter’s Book. (including this line from the book…’If Hitler hadn’t turned against their beloved Stalin, liberals would have stuck by him, too.’)
You go read the book review, even though you swore off reading anything by Hitchens not long after he lost his mind and would only read anything by Coulter if it were absolutely, positively the only way to stop Michael Jackson from dangling your child off a hotel balcony. It’s a rather lengthy review, just brimming with wit and wisdom — from Hitchens, of course, not Coulter.
Now you want to return to Reddit to toss the submitter an up vote. You hit the back button on your browser … and, voila, nothing … the post that led you to the review is no longer there, it’s moved on amid the endless torrent that is new material on these social bookmarking sites. And, to make matters more annoying, you don’t know whether it’s been moved up or down by the masses who vote.
If you’re determined to register your opinion, you hunt the original post down through brute force searching.
If you’re not, well, you move on.
A decidedly small matter in the grand scheme, I know, but having a blog means never having to say that’s too minor of a beef to justify a post.
