Am I the only one who read that headline and thought corporate computer network instead of television? And wondered what kind of a stunt would get a net exec canned? … Not here at Network World; I can’t be alone.
Anyway, the Boston Globe headline does indeed refer to the resignation of the general manager of the Cartoon Network over his role in that marketing campaign that sent the city of Boston into a tizzy for the better part of a day.
“I deeply regret the negative publicity and expense caused to our company as a result of this campaign,” wrote Jim Samples in his resignation letter. “As General Manager of Cartoon Network, I feel compelled to step down, effective immediately, in recognition of the gravity of the situation that occurred under my watch.”
Have to admit to mixed emotions on this one; arrests and resignations seem a bit extreme. My Network Work colleague Adam Gaffin seems to have summed it up best in this rant, which can be found toward the bottom of the comments string.
