John Chambers had pledged $100,000 of his own money to help Mercy Health System meet its $40 million capital campaign, reports Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Chambers’ donation – which is in addition to a $250,000 donation by Cisco – is in response to a challenge set by Lee Scott, president and CEO of Wal-Mart, and his wife Linda (Wal-Mart stocks Linksys gear, notes the story), that they would donate a further $250,000 if four donors stepped up to pledge at least $250,000 each. Cisco, Chambers and his wife Elaine, are the first to respond.
