More and more, it looks like Adobe was prescient in complaining to the DOJ, and those blithering idiots at the EU Office of Competition about Microsoft’s plans for XPS.
Since the release of XPS with beta 1 of Office 2007, I started using XPS as the default document format for distributed documents at SmallBizVista.com, and after the GA release of Office 2007 and Windows Vista™, I made it the de facto format for all Logikworx® official documents.
While we still use Adobe Acrobat for certain documents, the ease of just printing to PDF or XPS for Office documents, and XPS for all other documents and web pages coupled with the Windows XP compatibility and ubiquity trumped PDF documents handily.
For my dev and tech teams, using the XPS format ensures that document fidelity stays constant across not only our internal networks, but also across those of our clients, globally.
I can definitely see us not using Acrobat for anything one year out.
I guess Adobe now knows what if feels to be the entrenched leader!
Next on the firing squad list: Flash with Silverlight, and Flex with Expression Blend.
