The ITU has finally ratified the H.264 video compression standard meaning there will soon be a flood of “we’re doing H.264” announcements like this one. For those that haven’t been keeping score at home, the H.264 video compression is said to cut the necessary bandwidth in half for sending video during a videoconference. So one can see what they consider 768K bit/sec quality video at 384K bit/sec, a nice way to reduce bandwidth and increase simultaneous call capacity with adding more physical lines or hardware.
