Avid Technologies is looking to cultivate a larger customer base by releasing a free version of its popular video editing software. Avid Free DV is based on the company’s high-end Avid Express and Media Composer systems and features the same user interface. It is targeted at home users with digital video (DV) cameras. The product is limited to two video tracks, four audio tracks and basic trimming and editing functionality. Enough to whet the appetite of potential customers. It should be available for download sometime in the next quarter.
