For those that love to encode video in Windows Media but hate the fact they can only target Windows and Mac users there’s good news out today: Microsoft has chosen InterVideo to port Windows Media to Linux. InterVideo will be porting all the major components over to Linux and offering the resulting codes to device manufacturers that use Linux in set-top boxes and video recorders. Microsoft already has deals with a number of MP3 player vendors, this is just the next step to expanding the reach of Windows Media into the consumer market. Now if we can only get Windows Media on Unix and Linux.
