Following the “cheers and jeers” format used by TV Guide and my local newspaper’s editorials, here are by thoughts on the new BuyMusic.com:
Cheers: It’s great that Windows folks now have an iTunes equivalent. The system for downloading seems pretty simple (I haven’t tried BuyMusic.com yet), the prices are reasonable and the selection wide. I like the idea of just downloading the songs from an album that I want, rather than having to buy the whole album for two or three songs and bunch of filler.
Jeers: For only offering WMA files and no MP3s. Don’t get me wrong, I love the quality of Windows Media 9 Series and the compression ratios. My biggest problem is my portable player (an Archos) only supports MP3, so why do I want to purchase music from BuyMusic.com if I can’t take it with me?
