New decoder for mobile devices

Sand Video today announced a new codec – SV-IP01LP – for mobile phones. The decoder core is based on Advanced Video Coding (AVC)/H.264 technology and designed specifically for mobile TV and cell phone video applications. The core is said to use a minimal amount of power resources and can deliver up to 30 fps with compression ratios of up to 3-times MPEG-2. The first chip-based samples will ship in early 2004.
