Chipmaker Broadcom recently scooped up Sand Video, which makes video compression chips, for $77.5 million – a nice return on the $8 million venture capitalists put into the company. Sand makes MPEG-4/H.264 chips for set-top boxes and other devices. Broadcom will most likely integrate the Sand technology into its own chip line.
