While Apple touts QuickTime’s Growth (see yesterday’s “250 million and counting” entry), Microsoft’s Windows Media continues to grow as well. The company announced this week that it has signed a deal with STMicroelectronics to develop chips emdedded with Windows Media technology. Initially the chips will be targeted at DVD players and set-top boxes, but once in chip form, it could go into just about any electronic device. Windows Media may not be a true “standard,” but it is becoming a de facto standard.
