There’s a new version of the popular DivX compression tool available. Version 5.2 features better performance and increased language support. The company claims 30% better performance that Windows Media technology. DivX targets hi-res, full screen video more than streaming. There’s also a new version of Dr. DivX available that makes the encoding process a little less cumbersome.

DivX started as a compression technology developed by founder Jerome Rota (known as “Gej”) as a means of moving his video portfolio around without too much loss in quality. His friends started using the technology as well and things took off from there.
