On2 ships Flix for Flash encoding

On2 Technologies, the company that created the codec for Flash 8, has released its own encoder tool called Flix. I’ve given it a quick try this week and was very impressed with the video quality created by the VP6 compression technology. Much better than what’s available for Flash 7 and on par with the likes of Microsoft Windows Media. The only downside is users have to upgrade to Flash Player 8 to view the videos, though the download is pretty quick. Akamai/Speedera is supporting the new format, though I don’t think they’ve officially annouced it. Hopefully we’ll have some examples live soon. Flix is priced at $249.
