Building on rumors that Apple is working on a larger-screened iPad, the Japanese-language Macotakara reported over the weekend that Apple is developing an iPad Pro with a reported 12.2-inch display.
While any Apple rumor should always be viewed as speculation, it’s worth noting that rumors surrounding an alleged iPad Pro device have been swirling around the rumor mill for quite some time. Indeed, some reports have suggested that Apple’s original plan was to release an iPad Pro model this Fall.
So, what do the latest reports indicate? Well, this rumored iPad Pro will reportedly be extremely thin, measuring in somewhere between the iPhone 6 and the current iPad Air 2. Size-wise, Macotakara writes that the iPad Pro will feature a 12.2-inch display, a marked increase from the current 9.7-inch display Apple uses on the iPad Air 2. Notably, previous reports have speculated that the iPad Pro would feature a 12.9-inch display.
On another front, Macotakara also writes that the iPad Pro may be able to support stereo audio. As for internals, G For Games reported earlier in the year that the iPad Pro will likely support the same A8X processor currently used on the iPad Air 2 and will come with 2 GB of RAM.
Again, Apple rumors are a dime a dozen, but Macotakara has traditionally had a stronger track record than some other sites out there. Besides, with iPad sales growth now on the decline, it stands to reason that Apple might want to inject some fresh blood into its tablet lineup. What’s more, with the average selling price of the iPad now on the decline (thanks to the more affordable iPad Mini), a higher-priced and higher-margined iPad Pro would be a boon to Apple’s balance sheet as well.
Lastly, Macotakara relays that Apple is planning to release its gargantuan iPad sometime in early 2015.
