Customer says multi-day outage brought down the Fujitstu cloud
Fujitsu, the Japanese technology company with an international IaaS cloud offering, confirmed that it had a significant outage to the company’s California data centers last month.
The company has released scant details about the outage, but at least one customer told Network World his service was out for five days.
Fujitstu issued a statement noting that it is still investigating the situation, but revealed that it was caused by a loss of power to the company’s Sunnyvale data center. Fujitsu would not confirm how many customers were impacted or how long the disruption lasted long. Here’s Fujitsu’s statement in full:
Fujitstu offers an array of cloud services globally. In the U.S., along with Asian and European markets, the company offers its Trusted Public cloud service named TPS5, which offers instantly available commodity compute resources. Another service is the company’s Platform Stack, which is a more classic managed service offering. In other areas of the world, such as Asia and Europe the company has more advanced SaaS and application development offerings as well.
The company is in the midst of more fully embracing open source standards, including OpenStack, for its cloud. It recently partnered with Red Hat and Akamai to advance those efforts.
The company has been featured in research firm Gartner’s IaaS Magic Quadrant for IaaS as a niche player for the past few years, specifically as an outsourcer to customers looking for an international presence.
