In our second newsletter springing from the 2012 Enterprise Connect conference, we note that Genband has announced it is expanding beyond its current client base of service providers into the enterprise communications market — with a focus on offering unified communications (UC) and SIP trunking solutions to an increasingly mobile workforce.

The company counts nearly 250 million carrier-proven IP communications ports deployed globally among its carrier customers, and it plans to extend its products and services to large-scale enterprises seeking an IP-based UC infrastructure.

Genband’s enterprise solutions will provide “integrated VoIP, video, federated and secure instant messaging, presence, applications, desktop sharing and collaboration solutions along with native client integration into Microsoft Exchange and IBM SameTime,” according to the company’s statement. The portfolio elements offered include Genband’s The A2 Communications Application Server, S3 Intelligent Session Border Controller, G6 Universal Gateway, and C20 Converged Softswitch along with application suites such as the Genband A2 Mobile Office.

Commenting about the company’s plan, Mehmet Balos, CMO at Genband, said in a statement, “GENBAND’s proven enterprise solutions are device agnostic and offer cost-effective, innovative and evolutionary options that enable businesses to maximize both their existing and new infrastructure.”

Also commenting in a prepared statement, Brian Riggs, research director, Enterprise Software and Communications at Current Analysis, said, “As the workforce becomes increasingly more mobile and distributed, the expectation of anywhere, anytime on any device availability continues to drive new models in enterprise communications. This move is likely to shake up the market with compelling alternatives for the large enterprise, from a developer whose company and products are well-established in the carrier infrastructure market. The extensiveness and scale of GENBAND’s UC offerings on day one, combined with its device agnostic platform, will be a viable option for large enterprises.”

In a related announcement, Genband also revealed that it has signed Black Box Network Services (a communications system integrator) to the Genband Partner Advantage Program. Black Box joins the program as a Platinum Member — the highest possible partnership level that will facilitate that pathway for businesses who want to consider Genband’s enterprise solution.
