So you most assuredly know you’re in a bit of a pickle, given that unauthorized changes often lead to network problems.

It’s with this enterprise pain point in mind that Zyrion has topped off the business service monitoring and network performance management capabilities of its Traverse platform with configuration management, says Vikas Aggarwal, company CEO.

With the new module, network managers will be able to review and come to an understanding of what network device configurations have changed and the associated performance ramifications, Aggarwal says. Like many other network and systems management vendors, Zyrion is addressing IT manager’s needs for a single, unified management platform.

“:Zyrion’s Traverse is a standout solution … for mid-tier and lower-end enterprise deployments seeking a mature, easy-to-deploy, monitoring-rich BSM Service Impact solution,” said Dennis Drogseth, vice president of Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) in a recent BSM market report.

In the report, Drogseth named Zyrion a “strong value” BSM provider. The company “has evolved to support one of the richest capabilities for application monitoring, and arguably the single most pragmatic approach to service modeling bar none. While it is very scalable, Zyrion Traverse’s bottoms-up/top-down design favors mid-tier environments,” Drogseth said.

Zyrion does indeed like to distinguish itself on scalability, Aggarwal says. For high scalability, he explains, it uses a distributed database model that collects and analyzes data locally rather than pushing it to a central warehouse.

“At larger companies, this gives us the ability to monitor complete performance metrics from 10,000 to 12,000 servers and routers — that being close to a million metrics — every five minutes,” he says.

More typical, he adds, would be environments where each collector and analytics engine can process roughly 50,000 to 60,000 metrics in that same time period.
