There’s not a day that goes by that someone doesn’t call me about BYOD, and with good reason. The potential for cost savings and improved user satisfaction are enormous, and we can address all of the issues that have historically raised the caution flag regarding BYOD. Consequently, BYOD is now well on its way to becoming the norm in the enterprise, with only a few rare exceptions. My thinking on this subject did a 180 about three years ago – but getting BYOD right still involves the consideration of a good number of issues, a bit of strategic IT thinking, and implementing the right solution, the first time. Getting BYOD wrong can have dramatic consequences across the board, but the pitfalls, once identified, are easy to avoid.
