A fine update on a solid device
If you bought an HTC Droid Incredible two years ago and were happy with it, you might consider getting the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE when you’re due for an upgrade since it’s by and large the same device.
And that’s not a knock, mind you, since the original Droid Incredible was a solidly-built Android device that, along with the Evo 4G, helped establish HTC’s reputation as a top Android smartphone manufacturer. And while recent smartphone releases such as the Samsung Galaxy Note and the HTC One line have put major emphasis on delivering enormous screen sizes, the new Droid Incredible is still a relatively small device with a four-inch screen that fits well in your hand.
The newest device isn’t exactly the same as the original, of course, since it has several key features that update the Droid Incredible for 2012. The most prominent new feature, as you might have guessed by the “4G LTE” in the new Incredible’s title, is connectivity with Verizon’s LTE network. It also now has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and Android 4.0 (“Ice Cream Sandwich”) and an 8MP camera, none of which were available on smartphones back in 2010.
The two coolest new features on the new Droid Incredible, however, both relate to multimedia. One of them is Dr. Dre’s Beats audio software that delivers high-quality sound over a wide variety of platforms, from MP3s installed on the device to videos streamed over YouTube. The best part is you don’t even need to own Beats headphones to get the same quality audio delivered by the software, as headphones from Bose and Skullcandy can work just as well. The other key multimedia feature is its compatibility with the HTC Media Link HD dongle that lets you transmit whatever happens ot be on your smartphone screen directly onto your television. Essentially the dongle acts as an intermediary between your mobile device and your television’s HDMI port. While it typically transmits signals over your home Wi-Fi network, HTC representatives said that it can also peer directly with both devices if no Wi-Fi signal happens to be available.
So the final verdict: The Droid Incredible 4G LTE doesn’t seem as immediately flashy as the One brand of devices that HTC has been showing off this week but it’s definitely a nice little device with some nifty upgrades from the original. If you’re due for an upgrade from Verizon in the near future, it’s definitely something to consider.
