A Large University and a Wireless Hospital: Two More Farpoint Focus Videos

Our latest videos in the Farpoint Focus series – a look at campus-wide wireless at a major Canadian University, and a truly wireless hospital.

We’re continuing to crank out videos under the Farpoint Focus label. We recently traveled to Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to visit with my old friend Luc Roy, who’s now the CIO there. Laurentian is a large university, and with all of the usual requirements for diverse, intensive, campus-wide mobile connectivity from students, faculty, and staff. Luc had done a great job meeting the needs of this demanding audience, as we learned from speaking with his customers, including a number of students. Everyone (including those we stopped at random) was really thrilled with the performance of Laurentian’s wireless LAN. The secret – well, take a look at the video and see for yourself.

We also had the chance to stop by Western Maryland Health Center in Cumberland, Maryland, to see something we’d only heard about anecdotally – the wireless hospital. WMHC is a new facility, just a couple of years old, and built with the concept of universal wireless mobility at its core. Healthcare is always one of the most challenging and mission-critical application areas, and for years the skeptics said wireless would never work here. Well, want to see the reality and the benefits? Take a look at this one.

We’re planning on having several more videos for you later this year. And I hope you’re enjoying these as much as we enjoy making them.
