I’ll be at Interop New York next week, and another Webinar on 802.11ac
I think I mentioned this before, but Interop New York (a/k/a Interop Fall) is next week, and once again I have the privilege of serving as the Track Chair for Wireless and Mobility. We have, as you can see, an exceptional program, and I hope you’ll be attending. This event overall is a little smaller than Las Vegas/Spring, but the Wireless and Mobility track is just as large and just as comprehensive in terms of both breadth and depth. It’s always an enormous effort to put something like this together; kind of like launching a rocket – years of preparation, test, and, well, you get the idea, with the result of all this work over in what seems like moments (OK, a week), but this event is always one of the most meaningful and rewarding activities I pursue. Again, I hope to see you there.
Also, I’m doing another Webinar on 10 October, sponsored by Meru Neworks on the subject of 802.11ac. I’m not really surprised at how much interest there is in this topic; after all, this might be the last major WLAN standard we see that introduces a new PHY (other than 802.11ad, anyway, but I’m not expecting that one to have the impact and reach of .11ac). Anyway, the focus this time is on new technologies, potential issues, and what enterprises should be doing now to prepare for .11ac. Don’t worry, you’ve got time, but it’s not too early to begin the planning process.
October and November are already shaping up to be pretty busy months around here – more Network World testing projects (I’m a little behind here because the hard drive in my main iMac died, and, while Time Machine did indeed work as advertised after the drive was replaced, and the whole restore process couldn’t have been easier, being without all those apps for a few days put a real damper on productivity – can cloud-based apps dominate soon enough?), other product reviews (including the annual Network World Holiday Gift Guide), at least three more Webinars, a couple more videos, and the new and improved 4G World conference in Chicago. My goal for this year, as I recall, was to have weekends off. Well, guess when I was in the office writing this? And will I have a free weekend between now and the end of the year? Maybe not. It’s a good thing I’m a workaholic who loves his job…
