Steve Jobs returned to Apple on December 20, 1996, more than 11 years after he was ousted from the company he helped co-found with Steve Wozniak back in 1976. That night, Apple evangelist Tim Holmes was in the crowd and captured Jobs’ return with his less-than-stellar QuickTake camera – you’ll note that many of the photos depict blacks as purples. Of course, the reason Jobs returned to Apple was because Apple acquired NeXT Computer for $429 million in order to save its flailing OS and ongoing market and mindshare losses to Microsoft.
Recently, Holmes posted many of these photos to his Flickr account. It’s a nice trip down Apple memory lane, especially seeing the old multi-colored Apple logo and Jobs sharing the stage with former Apple CEO Gil Amelio, whom Jobs didn’t hold in the highest esteem.
