Only good fortune prevented a full-fledged LDoS
endif; ?>Longtime readers know that the Laptop Drive of Shame (LDoS) occurs when you leave your laptop at home, don’t realize the oversight until you arrive at the office, and then have to retrace your route to retrieve the thing.
This morning, after a last minute car-swap with my wife had left my laptop in the wrong car, I caught a break: The warning light came on in my head an instant before I was to hit the highway on-ramp, which is about two miles from my house. Quick U-turn. No biggie.
Back in 2008 I wrote a post about a colleague’s experience with the Laptop Drive of Shame, and in doing so actually coined the phrase, which someone (honestly, not me) thought enough of to enter into the Urban Dictionary. I have a Google Alert set for my lone addition to the lexicon and it’s fun to see a reference pop up every now and then.
This morning wasn’t any fun, however, even though this wasn’t a full-fledged LDoS. My last one of those just celebrated its third anniversary.
